Large Wave Sweeps Spectators are Mavericks Surf Contest 2010
2010 Mavericks Surf Contest took place during one of the largest swells of the year and had very high tides. In this video, spectators were caught between the cliff and a tidal surge. The surge continued along the cliff and pushed through the main spectator area and swept over the adjacent jetty sweeping dozens of people into the Half Moon Bay harbor. Some were hurt with broken bones and cuts as they were swept over the rocks and contest equipment.
